He grew up in Timpson, Texas with his parents and older sister Ada Mac Crawford. He graduated from Timpson High School in 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tommy worked at Amos Foods in Timpson, then worked as the projectionist at the family Fox Theatre throughout High School.
