The Shelby County
Museum would like to announce their latest exhibit.
A ribbon cutting and open house will be held at 2:00 PM, April 9, 2009 for the
Early Schools of Shelby County Exhibit. Mrs. Fannie Watson has done a great job
gathering and displaying information she has acquired on the 90 plus school
districts that existed in the early 1900’s. We would like to invite everyone who
can to come by and read about the history of our early schools.

RAY JACKSON Ray Jackson, 79, of Center, died April 3, 2009 in Nacogdoches. As per his request, he was cremated and no services are planned. He was born March 24, 1930 in Bragg, Hardin County, Texas to Thomas Allen and Omino Newman Jackson. He is preceded in death by, Parents; Brother, Melvin Jackson; Sister, Ruth Jackson McSwain; Special Friends, Carla and Bernadette. Survivors include, His Volunteer Family at the Shelby County Museum; Bunch of Friends, especially Beatrice. Ray graduated from Center High School in 1947. He worked many years for Houston Power & Light. After retiring, he moved back to Shelby County and started volunteering at the Shelby County Museum where he spent countless hours researching and recording the history of Shelby County. The website of the Shelby County Historical Society was his pride and joy. This Weekly E-mail is one example of ways he created to keep people informed of the happenings of Shelby County. There are not words to express how much he will be missed by those of us at the museum. Mangum Funeral Home was in charge. |
BETTY ROSS POSEY Betty Delores Ross Posey, 75, of Logansport, formerly of Joaquin, died March 26, 2009 at her home. Burial was in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born February 15, 1934 in Houston to Oran O’Neil and Willie Mae Mosley Ross. Preceded in death by, Parents; Son, Frank Posey. Survivors include, Husband, N.F. VIVIAN D. ROBERTS Vivian D. Roberts, 74, of Shelbyville, March 30, 2009 in Nacogdoches. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. She was born January 23, 1935 to Coy and Ella Finch Blondell. She is preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Curtis Roberts; Infant Son, Curtis Roberts. MARY JUNE LUNSFORD Mary June “Pat” Lunsford, 73, of Center, died March 25, 2009 in Center. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center. RUBEN GOATCHER Ruben Goatcher, 63, of Center, died March 25, 2009 in Center. He was born August 3, 1945 in Denton Island, east of Tuckerman, Arkansas, to Luther Goatcher and Velvie Reed Brown Goatcher. Mr. Goatcher has been cremated. Survivors include, Wife, Heverin A. JOHN CHARLES STOCKMAN John Charles "Johnny" Stockman, 49, of Timpson, died March 25, 2009 in Timpson. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson. REECE V. CASEY Reece V. Casey, 73, of Shelbyville, died March 30, 2009 in Center. At the family’s request, Mr. Casey has been cremated and a private memorial will be held at a later date. GLYNN E. WINDHAM Glynn E. Windham, 47, of Bossier City, Louisiana, died March 31, 2009 at his home. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery, Joaquin, Texas. He was born to Julious and Thelma Bailey Windham on October 13, 1961 in Germany. Glynn served in the US Navy. R. D. STRONG R. D. Strong, 84, of Joaquin, died April 6, 2009 at Overton Brooks VA Hospital in Shreveport. Burial was in Lone Cedar Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born August 7, 1924 in the Fellowship Community of Shelby County to Robert “Poss” Strong and Mary Jessie Lowe Strong. Mr. Strong served in the US Navy, and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
