The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting April 21, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker this month will be Mr. Leon Aldridge.  He will speak to us about our local paper, The Light and Champion, where he is the publisher, about other newspapers he has been involved with during his career and about the history of Shelby County's newspapers. Everyone is invited to attend.

Billie Eaves McDaniel Davis , 77, of the Neuville Community, died April 5, 2015 in Lufkin, Texas. Interment was in Spann’s Chapel Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born November 24, 1937 in Shelby County to Allen and Odell Spann Eaves. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husbands, L C. McDaniel, Charles Ray Davis; Sister, Joyce Windham. Survivors include, Children, Kathy Ford & husband, William of Bronson, Debbie Loftin & husband, Ronald of Joaquin, Marty McDaniel & wife, Ann of Joaquin; Special Niece, Selena Windham & husband, Steve of Center.

COLE HOWARD DePRIEST
Cole Howard DePriest, 8, of Tenaha, died April 3, 2015 from injuries sustained in a horse-riding accident.  Interment was in Ramah Cemetery, Tenaha, Texas. Cole was born April 2, 2007 in Nacogdoches. He was a first grader at Carthage Primary School and a member of First Baptist Church in Center. Cole loved life and lived it to the fullest. He played baseball with the Carthage Dixie League and enjoyed swimming, hunting and working on the ranch. He especially enjoyed rodeoing and was a member of PYRA, East Texas Equestrian Drill Team and SCSP Association. He earned 2014 SCSP (6 and under) All-Around Champion. Survivors include, Parents, David Howard and Colette Cross DePriest of Tenaha; Sister, Abigail DePriest of Tenaha; Grandparents, Roland & Dianne Cross of Tenaha, Joe & Edna DePriest of Clarksville; Aunt, Cicily Cross Blair & husband, Jason, of Tenaha; Uncle, Brian DePriest & wife, Tori, of Paris.
