The Shelby County Historical Society
will hold its monthly meeting on April 17, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Shelby
County Museum. The speaker this month will be Colleen Doggett. She will bring an
up-to-date report on the happenings of the Shelby County Historical Commission
and have information on the project to restore the Records Building on the
square. Everyone is invited to attend.

SILAS WALTER “S. W.” CARTER Silas Walter “S. W.” Carter, 86, of Shelbyville, Texas, died April 5, 2012. Interment was in Carrolltown Cemetery, Shelby County. S. W. was born on July 10, 1925 to Smith L. and Della Ballard Carter at Camp Brittain, Texas that was a part of Pickering Lumber Company. During World War II, S. W. served in the Merchant Marines. After the war, he served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division of the U. S. Army and was a part of the Allied Occupation Forces in Japan. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Sisters, Lamerle Carter, Louise Carter Tamplin, Joyce Carter Campbell; Brother, Dugie Carter. Survivors include, Wife, Dorthy L.
