The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting September 19, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. Our guest speaker this month will be Colleen Doggett. She will speak to us about the Early Century Ferry Landings on the Sabine River. Everyone is invited to attend.

Juanita Faye Smith, 76, of Lone Oak, Texas, formerly a long-time resident of Huxley Bay, died September 7, 2017 in McKinney. Interment was in Wimberly Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born on April 16, 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii to James Alexander Burgess and Francis Maria Decoster Burgess. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Ira Smith. Survivors include, Children, Doug Smith & wife, Debra of Willis, Texas, Ronnie Lynn Smith of Huxley, Texas, Judy Ann Curtis & husband, David of Canton, Texas, John Edward Smith & wife, Donna of Elysian Fields, Texas; Brother, Robert Burgess of Benton, Arkansas.

MOZELLE LEE BELSHA AKINS
Mozelle Lee Belsha Akins, 62, of Center, died September 10, 2017 in Nacogdoches. Interment was in New Hope Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born November 12, 1954, in Center, to Earl Erwin Belsha and Ruby Christine Pate Belsha. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Jerry Wayne Akins, Sr.; Brothers, Tommy Ray Belsha, Johnny Earl Belsha, Robert Adams. He was born March 7, 1940 in Nacogdoches to Opal L. Wells and Lotis E. Marshall.
