The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting October 17, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. Our guest speaker this month will be Mr. Larry Hume.  He will be speaking to us about World War I. It is the 100th anniversary and he will tell us what is being done in Shelby County in remembrance of this time of our history. Everyone is invited to attend.

AILLENE ROBERSON
Aillene Roberson, 90, died October 1, 2017, in Longview, Texas. Interment was in Ramah Cemetery, Tenaha, Texas. She was born on February 10, 1927, in Paxton, Shelby County, Texas, to Rogers Ben and Eula Cammack Samford. She graduated from Tenaha High School in 1944. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Coach Jack Roberson; Brother, Rogers Burke Samford; Daughter-in-law, Patti Roberson; In-laws, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Roberson; Brother-in-law, Chuck Roberson; Sister-in-law, Mildred Roberson. Survivors include, Brother, Thomas Fred Samford & wife, JoAnn of Longview; Brother-in-law, Charles & wife, Van of Clear Lake City; Sons, Steve Roberson & wife, Jerrilyne of Longview, Ken Roberson of Stamford, Ric Roberson & wife, Sue Ann of Coppell, Ron Roberson & wife, Susie of Spring.

CHARLES WAYNE BOOZIER
Charles Wayne Boozier, 69, of Houston, died October 2, 2017, at his residence. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born April 23, 1948, in Shelbyville, to Ella Borders. He served his country in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by, Mother, Ella Allen; Sisters, Mary Graves, Joyce Gatton, Marie Hopson, Jean Kendrick; Brothers, Ivis Lee Graves, Mahon Graves. Survivors include, Wife, Theresa Anne Boozier of Houston; Daughters, Lisa Renee Cantu & husband, Edbert, of Houston, Amanda Michelle Boozier of Nederland; Sister, Barbara Whitten of Houston.

MARTIN MICHAEL MIDDLETON
Martin Michael “Mike” Middleton, 70. died October 03, 2017 in Boerne, Texas. Interment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. He was born February 13, 1947 to Martin McCoy Middleton and Shirley Booth Middleton. He was a 5th generation Shelby Countian born at the Sanitorium in Center, Texas. He grew up in Shelby County and graduated from Center High School in 1965. He started working at an early age, including driving the Center band bus. Mike took over his family’s feed mill and poultry business at the age of 16 after his own father passed away. He remained active in the chicken farming and cattle ranching business for much of his life, but Mike’s primary career was devoted to trucking. He grew the family business which shipped 3 daily loads of chickens from Center to Seguin into a dedicated trucking company based out of Center. By the time he semi-retired, Mike was president of Middleton Transportation Company / Lisa Motor Lines, a company that operated several hundred trucks out of Fort Worth and focused on delivering fresh produce and many other food products between producers and grocers across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Even after retirement, Mike helped his sons run several other trucking companies until 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, Wife, Brenda Williams Middleton; Sons, Martin, Michael, Mark, and Matt; Sister, Alice Joy Canales; Brother, Verner Wayne Middleton; 6 grandchildren.

LINDA REATHER SMALLEY
Linda Reather Smalley, 78, of Coldwater, Mississippi, died September 23, 2017, in Southaven, Mississippi. Interment was in Neuville Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born May 17, 1939, in Tenaha, to Leonard Elton Anderson and Katherine Rachel Oliver Anderson. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Daughter, Kerin Lynette Jordan; Brothers, Leonard Anderson, Lamar Anderson. Survivors include, Children, John and Chrisandra Bruton, Ed and Mary Bruton, Dennis Bruton; Brothers and Sisters, Mary Harris & husband, Drew, Wilbert Bruton & wife, Arlene, Hubert Anderson, Charles Anderson & wife, Margaret.

ROY LEE HEARNE, JR.
Roy Lee Hearne, Jr., 72, of Center, died October 1, 2017, in Center. Mr. Hearne’s wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. He was born November 19, 1944, in Marshall, to Roy Lee Hearne Sr. and Lillian Ione Vines English. Survivors include, Wife, Ellen Hearne; Daughters, Debi Jo Zimmerman, Margaret Smith; Sons, Roy Lee Hearne, III, Albert William Scotty Hearne; Sister, Judy Marie Barthel.
