THE SHELBY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNOUNCES MEETING
The Shelby County Historical Society will hold their
monthly meeting on October 18, 2011 at the Shelby County Museum. The guest
speaker will be Dr. Duane Hooper of Bay Area Christian School in League City,
Texas. He was born in Shelby County and descends from Richard Hooper, an early
settler during the Republic of Texas days, who was elected as Shelby County’s
first delegate to the first Congress of Texas. Dr. Hooper was the pastor of
Ramah Baptist Church at one time. He has been principal at the Bay Area School
for 21 years. He will speak about his book, Such is the Cause of Texas.

JOHN DEAN WINDHAM John Dean Windham, 74, of Bossier City, Louisiana, formerly of Center, died October 5, 2011 at his residence. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. He was born on December 25, 1936 in Center, Texas to John Desmond Windham and Maude Mahan Windham. Mr. Windham served his country as a Captain in the United States Army and later served his community as Mayor of the City of Center.
