SPC. CORY JOSEPH BERTRAND Spc. Cory Joseph Bertrand, 18 of Center, died October 14, 2008 while serving in the U.S. Army in Qazi Bandeh, Afghanistan during his tour of duty. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Shelby County with full military honors. He was born November 15, 1989 in Opelousas, LA. He joined the military in January 2007. He was a member of the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division; assigned to Fort Hood. Spc. Bertrand was awarded numerous medals and ribbons, among them are the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Global War of Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
