PRESTENE CONWAY McLAIN WEAVER
Prestene Conway McLain Weaver, 88, died November 10, 2021. She was born March 9, 1933. She was preceded in death by, Father, Preston Conway; Mother, Rita Hillen Conway; Brothers, Odell Conway, Roy Conway, Jack Conway; Sisters, Lyndal Zekula, Florence “Flossie” Steele; Son, Ferris “Butch” McCord; Husbands, Ferris “Bam” McCord and Kenneth Weaver.  Survivors include, Children, Pat Geer, Rita Charbeneau & husband Bobby, Tena Merrow, David Pierce and DeeDee; Sisters, Jimmie Lovell, Sara Nutt & husband C. M.
Services are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home, Caldwell, Texas.

GENE WALKER
Gene Walker, 87, died November 11, 2021.  Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas.  Gene was born, raised, worked, and retired in Center, Texas. He attended and graduated from Center High School in 1950.  He served his country in the U. S. Army, serving as secretary to the General of EUCOM (United States European Command). Gene was an influential presence in the Shelby County 4-H drill team, helping lead the drill team to 10 state titles while he served as Drill Master and eventually went on to serve on the State Leadership Board.  He was preceded in death by, Wife, Dolores Ann Walker; Parents, Kaufman Elijah “Cap” Walker and Ruby Maurine Humphries Walker; Sister, Marie Robinson; Brother-in-law, Ken Warr and wife Jean.  Survivors include, Daughter, Laura Walker of Center; Son, Steve Walker & wife Catherine of Buna; Brother-in-law, Gaylon Warr.

JAMES E. CAMPBELL
James E. Campbell 97, of Center, Texas, died November 12, 2021.  Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas.  He was born in Center, Texas on October 15, 1924 to Lacy Burke Campbell and Naomi Booth Campbell.  He graduated from Center High School in 1941. He served his country in the Army Air Corps.  He served his county in many ways.  In 1956, Mr. Campbell entered the butane and appliance business in partnership with Alton Foundation when they founded Farmer’s Gas Butane Company.  In addition, he owned and operated Farmer’s Natural Gas Company from 1962 to 1980 when he donated the system to Stephen F. Austin State University.In 1960, Mr. Campbell went into partnership with the Craycraft Brothers of Mount Enterprise to purchase the Center Auction Barn. For 22 years, the partnership continued until 1982 when Mr. Campbell bought out his partners and became sole owner.  He was a member of the Board of Directors and past president of the Sabine River Authority of Texas.  After more than 35 years leading Shelby County Savings Association/Shelby Savings Bank, as the driving force behind the creation of Shelby County Savings Association, then as chairman of the board, and the last few years as chairman emeritus. In 1973, he started General Shelters of Texas. He served as president of the Alumni Association in 1980-1981 at Stephen F. Austin State University. He was also a vice president and a member of the association board of directors. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2012, the James Campbell Plaza was dedicated in honor of Mr. Campbell.  He was preceded in death by, Parents, Lacy Burke Campbell and Naomi Booth Campbell; Wife, Mona Jeanne Jones Campbell; Daughter, Jamie Campbell Gamble; Son, Rick Lane Campbell;  Former son-in-law, Randy McElroy.  Survivors include, Daughter, Angela Koonce & husband David of Center; Son-in-law, Stephen Gamble; Daughter-in-law, Katrina Campbell; Former daughter in law, Tammy Lemoine.

JENNIFER GARRETT
Jennifer Garrett, 59, of Shreveport and Center, died November 3, 2021 at a Shreveport Hospital.  She was preceded in death by, Child, Edmond Brooks.  Survivors include, Mother, Eliza Cartwright Singleton; Father, Thomas Earl Cartwright, Sr.; Stepfather, Vernon Singleton; Sisters, Carolyn Jackson, Jeane Cartwright, Armer Early, Leah Smith, Melissa Calhoun, Telissa Cartwright ; Brothers, Thomas Cartwright, Jr, Todd Cartwright , Rufus Dennis Pilot, Jr; Children, Cormma (Trina) Anderson, Candus (Candy) Brooks, Ronnie (DeWayne) Garrett, Jr.
