Sheriff Harry Burns - 1927 - 1930
Shelby County
A native of
Tenaha, Texas, his father Dr. J. W. Burns and Mother Lucy Ann Armstrong was the
parents of fourteen Children. He began his political career in Tenaha as
Justice of the Peace in 1917 through 1919, later he was elected Shelby County
Tax Assessor from 1919 - 1920 and in 1927 to 1919, he was elected Sheriff
of Shelby County.
Afterward he worked in Austin
at the Capitol in the Liquidation Division. For fourteen years he was
Assistant Sergeant at Arms during Texas Legislative Sessions in Austin. In
1965, he was named City Judge with an office in City Hall.
