Sheriff Charlie B. Christian - November 1952 - January 1, 1961

        Charlie Brown Christian was born March 18, 1921 in Tenaha, Texas the son of Joseph Richard and Irene Brown Christian. He attended Tenaha Schools and graduated from Tenaha High School in 1939. After graduation Charlie B. worked for Humble Oil and Refinery in Baytown. He left Humble Oil and went into construction work as a pipe fitter until April 1944, when he entered the U.S. Army. Being honorably discharged from the Army he went to work as Deputy Sheriff for Tommy Sample from 1947 to 1950. For two years he owned and operated a dairy farm in Tenaha. He sold the dairy farm when he was elected Sheriff of Shelby County in 1952. He was elected to three terms as Sheriff of Shelby County and served for eight years in this office.
