Sheriff William Joseph "Buck" Pearce - November 1894 - November 1898

William Joseph "Buck" Pearce was born December 12, 1847 in Ouachita County
Arkansas to Benjamin Wiley Pearce and Anne Hunt Hall. William Joseph
enlisted as a Private in the 17th Louisiana Infantry, CSA, at the age of sixteen
and served three months. He later marrie Orrie Tichnor Bonnell. Buck
and Orrie lived in Bienville Parish Louisiana until about 1877. They moved
to Shelby County near Tenaha and remained there on a farm until Buck Pearce was
elected Sheriff of Shelby County in 1894. Orrie died October 2, 1931 and
Buck became one of Shelby County's last Confederate soldiers to die. He
died on April 9, 1937.
