TO THE HONORABLE
         THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE
                AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
                        OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

        In session at the City of Austin. Your petitioners would most respectfully represent to your Honorable Body their grievances and inconveniences – believing that the wisdom and intelligence of your Honorable Body will apply a speedy remedy and thereby redress the grievances of your petitioners of Nacogdoches, Rusk, Panola, and a small portion of Shelby Counties; and we, your petitioners, would most respectfully represent that owing to the remoteness of your petitioners from the Seat of Justice and inconveniences coupled therewith and growing out of said remoteness would most humbly pray your Honorable Body to grant the following prayer and petition.
        So that we your petitioners may be brought into closer proximity to a Seat of Justice, and to this end we further pray that your Honorable Body will grant your petitioners a NEW COUNTY, formed out of the following described territory to wit:
        Commencing at the southwest corner of Rusk County, running with the Cherokee County line or portion of it as the case may be, to a point eight miles due south of said southwest corner, and from thence east to the Attoyaque River or Shelby County line; thence up the Attoyaque River to the southeast corner of said County of Rusk; from thence said southeast corner twelve miles due north; thence from said point due west to the Cherokee County line; thence down said Cherokee County line bearing south to the place of beginning.
        And we, your petitioners, would further most respectfully represent that we wish the said NEW COUNTY named or called BOWDEN.
    And we, your petitioners do furthermore most respectfully wish the Seat of Justice called BOWDEN.
    We, your petitioners will ever feel grateful for the boon, and as in duty bound will ever pray.
