Carroll Cemetery

Shelby County Texas

 

The Carroll Cemetery is located of FM 417 approximately 7 miles east from Shelbyville, Texas, in the eastern side of Shelby County.  The land was donated by the Carroll Family for the purpose of burying three unnamed drifters who were reportedly killed by gunfire after a dispute in a local saloon.  As time went by families from the surrounding community selected this land as a resting place for their loved ones.  Today, a committee handles the care and management of the cemetery. Those families who have their loved ones buried here contribute funds and time to maintain the cemetery.  The Cemetery includes people of varied ethnic backgrounds.   Specifically both black and whites are interred here and hold position on the committee.
