Sample Cemetery |
From Center, take Highway 87 South to Shelbyville, Take F. M. 417 East about 2 miles to the intersection of F.M. 2694, turn right. Go about 4 miles you will see a red gravel road to the right marked with a forestry sign 165. Turn on 165, at the dead-end turn left. Continue on this road until it ends at the Sample Cemetery. The Cemetery is at the Hinkle Schilling Fox Pen.

The cemetery was established at the death of John Sample who came to Texas with his family in 1838 from Kentucky. All the children of James Bedford and Martha Ann's children are buried in the cemetery. About 1984, we established a perpetual fund to help with the upkeep of this cemetery. It is located in a very remote area, about 4 miles off FM 2694 below Shelbyville. I would be glad to do lookups for anyone interested in this family cemetery. One of my goals for this year is to get a historical marker for the cemetery.
