The grandest them the world has ever know, and it's greatness will be increased as the ages of eternity roll !And it cam to pass that when the evil spirit was upon Saul, that David took an harp an played with his had: so the evil spirit departed from him ! From the foregoing quotation we infer that music, even in early Biblical times, was accredited with having power to charm; also power to cure.
Moving down to the sixteenth century, we find Philip V King of Spain, who was subjected to fits of melancholy; he would withdraw himself to a dark room and nothing could induce him to take an interest in life around him. In despair his physicians decided to try the effects of music upon him. Thereupon a noted Italian singer "Fairness" was ordered to sing in an adjoining room; tears came to the monarch's eyes and he commanded the door to be opened.
While music has this quieting effect, it also possesses power to arouse a soul to the highest state of courage.
One thing we are striving for in the Music Department of Center High School is to get the very best results in the shortest time.
Music students are impatient as a general thing, and not willing to wait for results---like children sowing seed in the evening, dig it up next morning to see what it is doing. Music study is a seed sowing, and as in the natural world, if the conditions are right, will grow and bring forth some harvest.
The music student should first have some musical talent, then he must be willing to work regularly and faithfully follow the teacher's instruction to the best of his ability. All things of real worth grown slowly: the oak requires a century; the mushroom grows overnight and decays as quickly. Music is a slow growth.
Attempts at enormous musical effects often follow wars. After the French revolution, Mehul's plan was to have a chorus of 300,000 divided into four armies, 200 drummers and a company of artillery. At a given signal this great chorus was to sing one chord.
We do hope to attain such great things in the Music Department of Center High School, but we are striving with all our might to do the very best under the present conditions, and we realize there are no bounds to our advancement if we press forward.
Those finishing their course in music this year are as follows: Miss Mozelle Houston (Violin course); Misses Alma Wood, Opal Britain, Mary Rogers, Austine Mills, Loretta Deau )Piano Course).
The Glee Club is composed of a bright, enthusiastic band of young men and young ladies, and we are making rapid strides in that line.
The Orchestra (last, but not least) is larger this year than any previous year. The members are as follows:

Minta Burns - Society Editor
Junior -- Seniors
The Juniors entertained the Seniors on Halloween night at the home of Miss Johnnie Thomas, a Junior girl. Everyone enjoyed the party immensely except the going home part of it. There were some of the young people in a car that got home about 12 o'clock.

Senior -- Juniors
The Juniors were entertained at the home of Mrs. P. L. Sandel one pretty moonlight night. A Good time was enjoyed by all.

Senior Girls - Senior Boys
The Senior boys were entertained at the Polley Hotel on Valentine night. The girls claim that the part was in honor of the boys for their way of conducting chapel.
*****
Faculty --- Seniors
The Seniors were entertained by the faculty on the night of the fourteenth of April with a moonlight picnic. The girls came in at an early hour, but some of the boys stayed out all night. Leroy Alford took his monthly bath that night -- accidentally -- when he should have waited 'till next Saturday night.

Senior Boys --- Senior Girls
The Senior boys entertained the Senior girls with a moonlight picnic. The girls seemed satisfied with the party, so we think that it was a success.

That reminds me of a Beauty Contest. Once upon a time there was a great contest between the Seniors and the rest of the school. So --- but thereby hangs a tale that I will tell some other time.
