MEMBERS OF THE SENIOR CLASS OF THE CENTER HIGH SCHOOL WERE ENTERTAINED FRIDAY EVENING, APRIL 17, 1947 BY THE JUNIORS WITH A LOVELY BANQUET GIVEN IN THE HIGH SCHOOL CAFETERIA. SEATED AT THE TABLE, WHICH WAS ARRANGED IN U-SHAPE, WERE MEMBERS OF THE JUNIOR AND SENIOR CLASSES AND THE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS.
THE TABLE , IN FLORAL DECOR, CARRIED OUT THE SENIOR CLASS COLORS OF SCARLET AND GRAY. DOWN THE LENGTH OF THE BOARD, SCARLET FLOWERS, INTERMINGLED WITH FERN, WERE GRACEFULLY ARRANGED IN CRYSTAL BOWLS. THE CANDLES WHICH GAVE A SOFT LIGHT WERE RED. PLACE CARDS WERE SMALL DIPLOMAS TIED WITH SCARLET RIBBONS.
RICHARD CASE, PRESIDENT OF THE JUNIOR CLASS, WAS MASTER OF CEREMONIES AND GAVE THE ADDRESS OF WELCOME. TOMMY FONTAINE, PRESIDENT OF THE SENIOR CLASS, GAVE THE RESPONSE.
SUPT. F. L. MOFFETT GAVE THE ADDRESS WHICH WAS OUTSTANDING IN INTEREST. HE CHOSE FOR HIS SUBJECT, "FAITH," WHICH HE DISCUSSED UNDER FOUR DIVISIONS, "AN ABIDING FAITH IN GOD," WITHOUT WHICH NO LIFE IS COMPLETE; "FAITH IN OUR FELLOWMAN," AN UNCONQUERABLE FAITH IN OURSELVES, AND "FAITH IN THE FUTURE." HIS TALK WAS LISTENED TO WITH CLOSE ATTENTION BY THE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN HIS CHARGES. MANY OF THEM, FOR THEIR ENTIRE SCHOOL LIFE.
CLASS PROPHECY WAS READ BY BEN ADAMS. THE CLASS WILL WAS READ BY JOAN HOWARD. A VOCAL DUET, "YOURS," WAS GIVEN BY PORTIA PAYNE AND JOAN CRAWFORD AND A SECOND DUET, "SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY," BY ANNIE LOUISE COTTLE AND MARY LOUISE NAPIER, WERE ENJOYED.
THE PROGRAM CLOSED AS THE CLASS AND TEACHERS STOOD AND SANG WITH DEEP FEELING IN THEIR VOICES THE TRADITIONAL SONG OF COMMENCEMENT DAYS "AULD LAND SYNE."
Note: The above article stated the class colors as scarlet and gray. Should have been red and white... also the name of Joann Howard as Joan.
