MANUEL ESCOBEDO
Manuel Escobedo, 85, of Center, Texas, died May 25, 2026, in Center, Texas.  He was born December 23, 1940, in Frontera Coahuila, Mexico, to Encarnacion Escobedo and Celia Gonzalez.  He was preceded in death by, Wife, Maria de Jesus Escobedo; Parents; Son, Victor Escobedo Sr.  Survivors include, Sons, Manuel Escobedo, Armando Escobedo and wife Blanca, Arnulfo Escobedo.

CLAUDINE BUCKNER
Claudine Buckner, 92, of Center, died May 29, 2026, in Center.  Interment was in Spann’s Chapel Cemetery, Shelby County.  She was born May 13, 1934, to Robert Gunnels and Alma Eaves Gunnels.  She was preceded in death by, Husband, James Buckner; Parents; Sister, Mozelle Bowles; Brothers, Bill Gunnels, Mutt Gunnels; Son-in-law, James Clark.  Survivors include, Children, Jeannie Clark of Center, Kathy and husband Chuck Kay of Shelbyville, Jamie Buckner of Center.

L. LOUIS GARRETT, JR.
L. Louis Garrett Jr., 63, died February 14, 2026 in Flint Michigan.  He was born  June 1, 1962, in Center, Texas, to L. Louis Garrett Sr. and Dorothy Mae Holman-Garrett.  He graduated with honors with the Center High School class of 1980.  The family will host a Memorial Remembrance Celebration in honor of L. Louis Garrett, II on June 6, 2026, at 5pm at Pineywoods Outreach Center.  He was preceded in death by, Uncle, L.W. Garrett (Mary Ruth), Aunt, Alice Garrett, Grandmother, Elvira Garrett-Williams.  Survivors include, Children, Catherine Gilmore of Dallas, Alexandria Garrett of Port St Lucie, FL; Special Aunt and Mother Figure, Mary Garrett (Howard) of Center; Siblings, Juanita Holman-Segura and Yolanda Holman of Beaumont, Arthur Holman of Dickinson, Chinta Garrett-Spikes (Danny) of Lufkin.
Though he is no longer with us, the love he gave and the lives he touched will remain with us forever.

JOE DOUGLAS MADDEN
Joe Douglas Madden, 77, of Center, Texas, died May 31, 2026, at his home.  Interment was in Jackson Cemetery, Shelby County.  He was born August 26, 1948, in Logansport, LA, to Calvin Joe Madden and Mary Elizabeth O’Rear Madden.  He was preceded in death by, Parents; Sister, Patricia Ann McCoy; Brother-in-law, Howard McCoy.  Survivors include, Wife, Kathy Madden of Center; Sons, Shannon Madden and wife, Leah, of Carthage, Don Madden and wife, Sarah, of Joaquin; Daughter, Michelle and husband, Thomas Lee, of Center.

Peggy Woodfin, 79, died May 31, 2026.  Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas.   She was born August 17, 1949, in Center to Charles Powdrill and Ruth Mitchell Powdrill.  She was preceded in death by, Parents; Sister, Melissa Powdrill Bailey; Brother, Allen Powdrill.  Survivors include, Husband, Obie Neil Woodfin; Daughter, Amy Woodfin Hedrick and husband Mark; Son, Phillip Nathan Woodfin and wife Melissa; Brother, Mike Powdrill and wife Sheila.

J. L.
